The Casual Marvel Fan's Guide to em WandaVision /em Episode 5

Slate

This article contains spoilers for the first five episodes of WandaVision. Let's start with the biggest question. What was the deal with "Pietro" at the end of the episode? That was Evan Peters reprising his role as the late Pietro Maximoff, Wanda's brother, but--and here's the twist--it's not the Pietro Maximoff we've seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU's Pietro, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, died in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

'Captain Marvel' Shows How Trolls Lost Their Edge

WIRED

Captain Marvel's $455 million opening weekend is an enormous, expensive failure. Not for Marvel, or fans of superhero movies, or people whose opinion seems to matter. Trolls have been trying to sabotage Captain Marvel's success since the first trailer dropped last September. So persistent and numerous were these trolls in their "review bombing" that Rotten Tomatoes changed its policies to prevent people from rating a movie before its release, and YouTube altered its search algorithm to uncouple star Brie Larson's name from the smears. Captain Marvel's box office performance has led many to say that the movie "defeated" or "conquered" the trolls--and the trolls certainly did lose.

California Inc.: Finally, the Marvel character in tights is a woman

Los Angeles Times

Welcome to California Inc., the weekly newsletter of the L.A. Times Business Section. Investors are still digesting news that the nation's economic growth declined at the end of last year for the second straight quarter, denying President Trump the 3% annual increase he had promised his tax cuts would create. And growth this year and next won't hit that level either, economists say. Total economic output rose 2.9% in 2018. Beige Book: The latest Beige Book from the Federal Reserve comes out Wednesday.

Rotten Tomatoes makes change to stop 'trolling'

BBC News

Rotten Tomatoes is no longer allowing people to post comments about films before they come out, to try to stop trolling. The site announced the change in a blog post, saying some comments are "a disservice to our general readership". It says there's been an "an uptick in non-constructive input, sometimes bordering on trolling". But the movie site assured fans they would still be able to review films once they're released. "We have decided that turning off this feature for now is the best course of action," the blog said.

Rotten Tomatoes' Revamp Could Save 'Captain Marvel'

WIRED

The flood of trolling on Rotten Tomatoes started about a month ago. Weeks before the release of Captain Marvel, commenters on the site were already claiming the movie was garbage and that they had no intentions of seeing it. "Terrible movie hate it already!!!!!!" wrote one. "Not interested in seeing another SJW [Social Justice Warrior] propaganda film," claimed another. And finally: "THIS MOVIE IS DESTINED TO FLOP."

USATODAY - Tech Top Stories

It's a new year, which means new video games to stoke our excitement. This year, we also get two more home consoles, Nintendo's Switch and Microsoft's Project Scorpio, a souped-up version of the Xbox One supporting native 4K resolutions and virtual reality. While we wait for fresh hardware, let's look ahead to the software players will likely pine for in 2017. Details: This side-scrolling action game is inspired by classic cartoons of the 1930s, even adopting similar animation techniques. Lead characters Cuphead and Mugman make a deal with the devil, and must perform his bidding through a variety of levels played either solo or cooperatively with friends.

Los Angeles Times

The great gathering of genre fans in the city that never sleeps is officially over. New York Comic-Con has closed its doors after a weekend of surprise comic book cameos, never-before-seen TV premieres and geeky celebrations. Jessica Jones in the scarcely cosplayed version of her (now retired) alter superhero character Jewel, Luke Cage in Power Man attire, and Marvel's brand new Iron Man character Riri Williams.
